My 3D Printing Setup

My Configuration

  • Printer: Prusa i3 MK3S+ (EUR 1000)
  • Slicer: PrusaSlicer 2.4.1
  • 3D Modeling Software: Autodesk Fusion 360 Premium License (EUR 500 / year)
  • Laptop: Apple MacBook Pro (M1, 2020)
  • Printbed sheets (Prusa Guide – external link)
    • Prusa Smooth PEI (for PLA only)
    • Prusa Satin (for PLA and PETG)
    • Prusa Textured (for PETG only)
  • Tools & Accessories – Purchased
    • IPA spray for printbed sheet maintenance
    • Kitchen paper towel for printbed sheet maintenance
    • Small wire cutter to cut filament (angle cut when changing filaments)
    • Small tweezer(s) to easily grab any filament flying about before/during/after printing
    • Digital caliper to measure objects
  • Tools & Accessories – Printed

My Workflow

  • Design in Fusion 360
  • Export STL from Fusion 360
  • Slice STL in PrusaSlicer with System Presets
  • Export gcode from PrusaSlicer to SD Card
  • Load PLA or PETG filament depending on modeling phase (prototyping <> production)
  • Print model from SD card
  • Remove finished print from printbed sheet by bending the sheet and/or using the scraper
  • Clean printbed sheet with IPA spray on kitchen paper towel
  • Repeat X times until happy 🙂

Print Settings

Prototyping PLA

  • Filament: Velleman PLA (leftovers from my previous printer) or Prusa PLA Galaxy Silver (sample that came with the printer)
  • Printbed Sheet: Prusa Smooth PEI
  • Print Settings: System Preset “0.20mm Speed”
  • Filament Settings: System Preset “Generic PLA” (for Velleman) or “Prusament PLA” (for Prusa)
  • Printer Settings: System Preset

Production PLA

  • Filament: Prusa PLA (Jet Black)
  • Printbed Sheet: Prusa Smooth PEI or Prusa Satin
  • Print Settings: System Preset “0.10mm”
  • FIlament Settings: System Preset “Prusament PLA”
  • Printer Settings: System Preset

Production PETG

  • Filament: Prusa PETG
  • Printbed Sheet: Prusa Satin
  • Print Settings: System Preset “0.10mm”
  • FIlament Settings: System Preset “Prusament PETG”
  • Printer Settings: System Preset
